Jundiaí is the City of Children and is part of the Latin American Network and, more recently, was invited by the Bernard Van Leer Foundation to join the Urban95 Network, which focuses on actions developed in the 0-6 years stage.
CREATION OF THE MUNICIPAL CHILD POLICY
Since 2017, public policies for children have been implemented in Jundiaí, when the Child in the City Municipal Policy was created, which aims to guide urban planning, projects and actions in different areas for the healthy and safe development of children, favoring the safe occupation of public spaces, contact with nature, mobility, accessibility and entertainment.
PARTNERSHIP SIGNED WITH INSTITUTO ALANA
The first partnership established was with the Alana Institute, through the “Criança e Natureza” [Child and Nature] program, when a commitment was signed to create favorable conditions for children, especially those living in urban contexts, to grow and develop in direct contact with natural environments.
JUNDIAÍ JOINS THE LATIN AMERICAN NETWORK –CHILDREN’S CITY
In 2018, Jundiaí was the first city in the State of São Paulo and the second in the country to join the Latin American Network – Cidade das Crianças [Children’s City], assuming the commitment to enable actions around the participation of children and children’s perspectives.
During the same period, the “Criança na Cidade” [Child in the City] Working Group, made up of representatives from different areas (such as Government, Education, Culture, Sports, Health, Social Assistance and Urbanism) was formed and, since then, has worked to build intersectionality in public policies for children.
CREATION OF THE “CHILDREN’S COMMITTEE” OF JUNDIAÍ
By means of Municipal Decree no.º 27.780/2018, the “Children’s Committee” of Jundiaí was created, which has among its main functions listening to children in the city, aiming at the construction of public policies from the perspective of the children themselves.
APPROVAL OF THE MUNICIPALITY’S MASTER PLAN THAT DEDICATES AN EXCLUSIVE CHAPTER TO POLICIES FOR CHILDREN IN THE CITY
In November 2019, the Municipal Master Plan was approved (Law no.º 9321/2019) which, in a pioneering way, dedicates an exclusive chapter to policies for children in the city.
Also in 2019, the City Hall received a special request from the Children’s Committee: “to build a very large free public park with toys (including water ones) for children of all ages (sic)”. The request was granted in the same year, when work began on Mundo das Crianças [Children’s World].
JUNDIAÍ IS SELECTED TO JOIN A NEW INTERNATIONAL NETWORK FOCUSED ON EARLY CHILDHOOD
In June 2020, the Bernard van Leer Foundation, through the Sustainable Cities Institute, announced the eleven Brazilian cities that would become part of the Urban95 Network in Brazil. Among them, Jundiaí.
INAUGURATION OF THE CHILDREN’S WORLD
Jundiaí City Hall and DAE inaugurate the Children’s World. Located on the João Cereser highway, the space emerges with an unprecedented proposal of integration between play, learning and contact with nature, as a result of the initiatives of the Cidade das Crianças [Children’s City] municipal program.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mundo das Crianças became one of the main open-air classrooms in the municipal education network.
JUNDIAÍ PROMOTES INTERNATIONAL MEETING FOCUSED ON CHILDREN
The city promotes the 1st Brazilian Children’s Cities Meeting and the International Children’s Forum.
The Meeting will be attended by distinguished guests, such as: the Italian pedagogue and founder of the Children’s City International Network, Francesco Tonucci; the coordinator of the Latin American Network, Lorena Morachimo; the coordinator of the Argentina Network, Paula Querido; in addition to visitors and authorities from other Brazilian cities and abroad, for participation in panels, forums and monitored visits to municipal public facilities.
